 Agriculture and Feeder Road Construction

Concerned Women of Kono District are involved in agriculture. By doing so, we have to construct the feeder roads to our project site.

Economic empowerment is central to our work. Through agriculture, our members gain direct access to productive land and the means to sustain their families and communities. Concerned Women Kono has also delivered vocational training in tailoring, agriculture, and small-scale trade, and has facilitated market access for women-led businesses, strengthening household income and community resilience.

Our Core Programs

Concerned Women Kono advances women’s empowerment across four strategic program areas, each grounded in the lived experiences of women and girls in Kono District.

 Education Initiatives

Concerned Women Kono has prioritized education as a cornerstone of empowerment. We provide scholarships and mentorship programs to support girls’ access to primary and secondary education, advocate against early marriage and cultural practices that hinder girls’ education, and organize community sensitization campaigns highlighting the importance of keeping girls in school.

 Health Programs

Our health interventions focus on improving maternal and reproductive health outcomes. We conduct awareness campaigns on maternal health, family planning, and reproductive rights; partner with health facilities to provide training for women on safe motherhood practices; and lead community education initiatives on HIV/AIDS, malaria prevention, and other public health issues.

 Economic Empowerment

We work to reduce economic marginalization by equipping women with skills and resources. This includes delivering vocational training in tailoring, agriculture, and small-scale trade; establishing microfinance opportunities and savings groups to support women entrepreneurs; and facilitating market access for women-led businesses, strengthening household income and community resilience.

 Advocacy and Rights

Advocacy remains central to our mission. We lead campaigns against gender-based violence, raising awareness and supporting survivors; lobby for women’s inclusion in local governance structures; engage with policymakers to influence district-level development planning with a gender-sensitive lens; and promote cultural change by challenging harmful norms through dialogue and education.
